Purpose it!

Reading "a dark night in the garden" reminded me a lot of somethig Reid spoke about my trainee session that really struck me. The battle against sin and darkness is not won on the cross but here in the garden when Jesus submits to God's will. It is the obedience of His heart that wins us victory. His actions on the cross then follow his decision to submit because it has already been purposed in his heart.

Similarly, The battles this summer are won not in our actions but in the quiet obedience of our hearts. Our actions flow out of the obedience of our hearts decision to follow Jesus. In other words, as some may say, doing follows being. Jesus could not have done the cross had he not been the obedient, loving Son of God that He is.

Instead of purposing in our hearts to do things right this summer, let's purpose in our hearts to obey and follow. Protocol, safety, and genuine intentionality will then naturally flow from there. Our garden is here, our garden is now, in the deep and quiet recesses of our hearts, where he is calling us to follow. I pray that in the mundane and seemingly inconsequential moments before summer begins "Your will be done" rests heavy on our hearts.
