Posturing in solitude

Last week as I was challenged again by the SUP and staff devotional I was continually reminded of the posture that I commonly associate with solitude.  I'm a highly distractible person.  In school, sitting in class, the oddest things would capture my attention.  I find this as well with many of the kids I teach today.  As a student I would often be seen with my head low, or almost down on my desk.  I wasn't sleeping, I wasn't texting (okay sometimes I was) I was trying everything in my power to listen to the words of the teacher, as not to be distracted by anything.  This is often the case for me in silence as well.

"The purpose of solitude and the challenge of solitude is to allow ourselves to become silent enough to allow this interior silence to emerge. Silence is the language of the spirit. Solitude is the discipline that teaches us the language of silence."
"Eph.3:14-16 14 For this reason I kneel <-(POSTURE) before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. 16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being,"
The posture humbles me.  It allows me to be still.  It encourages focus and a distraction free space where I can enter into solitude. Alone with my Creator, and the Creator of the Cosmos.

I'm constantly distracted though... I can identify with the ANSWER: "WE DON'T WANT TO HEAR THE WORDS OF JESUS!"

But I do want to hear His words. I do want to practice this discipline more. I need to get on my knees, lower my self and practice.  I want to hear His words!


Finally I love the last footnote in the reading.  "4. Read the old testament! " Yes I  think this history is so important, it's our heritage!

Spirit, may I find rest and solitude in YOU. May I purposely seek your advice and council like my daily vitamin. Father, draw me into solitude and let me listen to Your Words. Humble me into Your arms as You whisper in my ear. I love you, thanks for sharing Your Love.
