Service

"He invites us into slavery! A slavery that when performed to perfection results in death." We are far from perfect, but if we choose to be servants, not just serve, then we will die to ourselves and let God shine through our lives and produce seeds. "Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds." (John 12:24) We cannot produce seeds by trusting in ourselves to serve, the only way to do that is to give God complete control and choose to be a servant. Jesus is God, yet he humbled himself to be a servant. So why do we sometimes feel like we a too good to be servants?

"We surrender the right to decide who and when we will serve." This summer we don't get to choose the campers we want or how early they are going to wake up, but we do get to choose to be a servant. We choose to be available to them no matter what time or who they are. We choose to love them in the same way that Jesus loved his disciples by washing their feet, through being a servant.
