" We are worshipping beings. All too often the object of our study becomes the object of our worship. Study school work, fashion, fitness,money,business,whatever-for countless hours of the day and slowly but surely you will be tempted to worship success, fame, popularity, power,greed... a false god!"
MAN! I read this quote and honestly felt like I was punched in the face.
WHY? because its true for me and probably true to some extent in all our lives. I was reminded, hmmm... actually convicted is the better word to use, of countless times where this has been very true in my life. I was reminded of the band I used to play in, and how I would literally study live footage of other bands to gain knowledge and insight of what good stage presences is, and I would do this for hours. I would also constantly check the venues through out California, to see the shows that where coming through the town, in hopes that we would be able to play as well. And you know what? I say this in a very non boastful way; We were successful, numerous concert reviews read something along the lines of our stage presence, or song writing, and unity. But that was just to the publics eye. No one knew that we worshipped this band, and gave into the temptation to worship success, fame, popularity, power, greed. The outside of me was shinning as bright as one could possibly be; but the inside was the aftermath of an earthquake, in which the rubble was near impossible to lift and clear. I was and still am probably to some extent the Church in Ephesus(Rev.2) . Doing great things; but have forgotten their first love.
It is through study, and God of course, that I have been able to see my mistakes, and work with God to begin the renovation process of my heart. When we study and line our lives up with the word of God, we must be prepared for the " punch in the face", but we must also be prepared to receive the grace of The Great Architect, who is all about rebuilding.
Have a blessed week my friends
-Chris
