Walking through the devotional this Holy Week, I have found this new and strange sudden awareness of exactly what Jesus did for us. That might sound weird, but every year I feel like its the same thing. My family always hosts my whole extended family for a big meal and traditional Easter egg hunting, fellowship with each other and mostly just a lot of eating and fun! But now in the back of my mind, I have realized that we aren't really celebrating what we are supposed to be. Before we eat, we say this awesome prayer totally related to the true meaning of Easter but really that is about it. And then we are all like "Sweet! Dig in!" This is in no way throwing my family under the bus... but its the truth. I think that most families just celebrate Easter to celebrate just another "holiday". It's another reason why students come home from school but do they really no what it is all about? I mean I am sure some people do, but I personally have fallen short year after year of the importance, and truth and LOVE this weekend really provides.
The clarity, and easiness of the excerpts from the Story Bible have been amazing. I don't know if is just me but I have a hard time fully grasping exactly what the bible says, and this provided me with such a clear understanding that essentially by the end of my reading I was like " HE DID WHAT?" This sounds silly but I found myself in this child like understanding of the vastness and complete submersing love that Christ has for me! and its not like I didn't understand it before but now I'm like whoa! and really the only way I have been able to express this crazy understanding is through again....laughter and tears! I find myself smiling in worship and laughter coming through my singing because I just feel....different now. Songs aren't just songs anymore. It's just awesomeness!! There has been a song that has been on repeat continuously this week for me and I would love to share it with ya'll! Its called "More Than Amazing" by Lincoln Brewster. My family has been blessed to be able to experience worship at Lincoln's home church and every time we sing this song I am brought to tears. The words are so plain but ultimately have such a deep
"With authority You've spoken
And You've set the captive free
You're the King who came to serve
And You're the God who washed our feet
You're the one who took our burdens
And You bled upon the cross
In your kindness and Your mercy
You became the way for us"
With this simple language, it is the essence of everything we are celebrating today and this week and everyday!! "But this is how God will rescue the WHOLE world. My life will break and God's broken world will mend. Just as the Passover lamb died, so now I will die instead of you. My blood will wash away all of your sins. And you'll be clean on the inside -in your hearts."
Sometimes its hard for me to articulate what I am trying to say, so I hope this all made sense. I just wanted to share my thoughts and what I've been thinking this week! Christ continues to show up I can't describe how grateful I am for the mercy and grace he openly gives us!
I hope you all have an amazing Easter! And I can't describe how excited I am to be a part of this team! I love you all! Hope you have a great day! :)
