"What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the LORD our God is near us whenever we pray to him?" (Deuteronomy 4:7)
I was reminded this morning by this verse what a beautiful honor and blessing to have the pleasure of knowing our God, the creator of the universe, the Alpha and Omega, the almighty Father, in such an intimate relationship that we might feel him near us as we practice the discipline of prayer. Grace and mercy beyond my comprehension! Grace and mercy unconditionally pouring out, like a waterfall off a cliff. We didn't start it, nor can we stop it, we can't control it, we attempt to stay a safe distance away from the falls in fear of the sharp rocks waiting at the bottom caused by the extreme forces of the falling water for eternities before our existence; but the moment we choose to step under the falls and completely submerge ourselves allowing his grace to encompass our whole being is the movement we realize our purpose in life. The moment we realize we have never been closer in relationship to our creator. What a great God to continue drawing us near to himself and to allow us the opportunity to experience his nearness through prayer.
I am so encouraged to prepare for summer simply by drawing near to God. To carving out time from studying, rehearsals, lectures, and work to take full advantage of this invitation laid out on the table for me. An invitation to discover the mysteries of my Father God. How? To press into God. To step into the water and walk directly toward the falls and allow the pounding water to lavishly wash over me.
