Only You and me

Solitude.

Amidst ski runs, gas runs, incident reports, shower parties, back-flips off the roof, endless games of Mafia and Signs, washing dishes, cleaning ski boats, loading ski boats, dropping anchor, staking up, etc., somehow 20 hours of the day has gone by and we are spent. Life at home isn't very different! We're spinning plates and eventually it gets chaotic. My life is a testament to that.

Solitude is our chance to draw back from all that. To be still and find rest in a way that you can never possess through sleep alone. It's our chance to "acquire the fire" and be lead by it even in the darkest night like the Isrealites were they trekked through the desert. Solitude is the picture painted in Psalm 23 of green pastures and still waters. In that place, we live with God our Shepherd, who keeps us safe and never lets us live with any want.

The song "Only You" by David Crowder is one I draw on a lot in solitude. At the end, he sings and repeats this line:

And it's just you and me here now
Only you and me

My dad is a pretty strong guy and when I'm with him I feel safe. In the last couple months, him and I have started to hang out a lot more. We go to the movies every weekend like we did when I was kid! When I'm with my dad, even if we don't say anything to each other(he can be pretty quiet sometimes), the very fact that we are together speaks volumes of his love for me. Quality Time is definitely a major love language for both of us!

Now I think about that and I even draw back to a post Michael Tucker wrote a couple weeks back on time he spent with his dad in the morning, and I realize how special solitude with my Abba Father is. With Him, I shall not want and I'm safe.

This summer, and even now as we are at home, if you're tired or weary, seek refuge in solitude with the Almighty. Solitude leads to vulnerability. Vulnerability is transparency and weakness. Weakness is where God's power is made perfect.

He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his namesake.
- Psalm 23:3
Even though I walk
Through the valley
of death and dying,
I will not fear
for you are with me,
You're always with!
